What the evidence says
Humectants on damp skin do raise surface hydration, and a moisturizer on top holds it; that part is basic dermatology. Multiple layers of the same humectant add little over one, and in dry air unsealed humectants can pull water outward. The effect is real, surface-level, and temporary.
